Hong Kong Railway Museum
新界大埔大埔墟崇德街13號The Hong Kong Railway Museum, located in the market center of Tai Po Market in the New Territories, is a 6,500-square-meter open-air museum occupying the site of the old Tai Po Market Railway Station. It is managed as a branch of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. History & Architecture: Built in 1913, the original station building features a unique, traditional Chinese pitched-roof design. The railway station ceased operations in 1983 and was declared a Statutory Monument in 1984 before opening to the public as a museum in 1985. Exhibits & Highlights: The museum beautifully preserves the historic ticketing office and signal cabin. On the outdoor tracks, it showcases an impressive collection of historic locomotives and coaches (including a steam locomotive, diesel electric engines, and vintage passenger coaches) that visitors can board to experience the nostalgia of rail travel. Visitor Information: Admission to the museum is completely free. It is open on Mondays, Wednesdays to Sundays, and public holidays (closed on Tuesdays, except public holidays). It is easily accessible via a short walk from either the Tai Po Market or Tai Wo MTR stations.
