Shing Mun Reservoir (Shing Mun Reservoir Walk), located in Shing Mun Valley north of Tsuen Wan, is one of Hong Kong's most popular and accessible scenic leisure hikes. The Iconic Highlight: The trail is world-renowned for its stunning Paper-bark (Melaleuca) tree woodlands. During the rainy season when the reservoir is at full capacity, the trees become partially submerged, creating a magical "flooded paper-bark forest" reflection that attracts countless photographers. Trail Features: The main loop trail around the reservoir spans approximately 8.5 to 10 km. It consists mostly of flat, paved roads and gravel paths with very gentle slopes, making it incredibly family- and beginner-friendly. Wildlife & Access: The area is a famous habitat for wild macaques (monkeys). Hikers typically start from the Pineapple Dam Nature Trail and complete the scenic loop clockwise or counterclockwise in about 2.5 to 3 hours.
