Mai Po Nature ReservePeter Scott Field Studies Centre, Tam Kon Chau Road, Yuen LongLocated in the northwestern New Territories, the Mai Po Nature Reserve is Hong Kong's most important wetland conservation area, widely known as a "Bird Paradise." In 1995, the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay wetlands were designated as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. The reserve features diverse wetland habitats, including gei wais (traditional shrimp ponds), mangroves, intertidal mudflats, freshwater ponds, and reedbeds, which serve as a critical habitat for a vast array of wildlife. Every winter, approximately 60,000 migratory birds visit the area. Managed by WWF-Hong Kong since 1983, the reserve is dedicated to conservation, research, and public environmental education, offering various guided eco-visits and programs.
